At Matthews Tire, giving back to the community and supporting worthy causes is at the heart of what we do. With a history dating back to the early 1950s, our tire and auto repair shops know the importance of investing in the communities we call home. This year, we’re thrilled to launch our 13th annual Oil Change for the Better fundraiser, benefiting the Fox Valley Humane Association.
During this two-week event from July 29th to Aug. 2nd and Aug. 5 to 9th, $15 from every oil change at any of our six locations will be donated to support Fox Valley Humane Association. The organization’s mission is to remove barriers for pets and their people by providing a continuum of expert care, education and connections to community resources.
How you can participate

Schedule your oil change: Visit any Matthews Tire location during the fundraiser period to participate. Each oil change directly contributes to our donation fund.

Exploring the mission of Fox Valley Humane Association
As a full-service, state-of-the-art animal shelter and resource center, Fox Valley Humane Association (FVHA) serves thousands of people and their pets each year. FVHA works 24/7 to see that no animal need in the Fox Valley goes unmet.
The organization was founded in 1891, making it the second-oldest humane society in Wisconsin. Today, FVHA cares for more than 6,000 pets annually—a number that continues to rise.
“The humane association is much more than a shelter for unwanted animals,” said Brenda Leick, director of development at the Fox Valley Humane Association. “We offer vital services such as low-cost vaccinations and services to ensure the health of pets and their people. These services help prevent the spread of diseases, provide essential medical care and improve the overall well-being of the animals. We’re honored that Matthews chose us.”

“Inspections during an oil change are important to help you get the most out of your car, which saves you money,” says Paul Ray, service manager at Matthews Tire Appleton East. “During an oil change, we check all the lights, wipers, belts, hoses, fluids, pumps and more. If we’re doing a tire rotation along with it, we check the brakes as well.”
When it comes to mileage-based recommendations, Paul says every vehicle is different. “For example, some makes of vehicle want specific maintenance done at 60,000 miles. We have a program to look up what’s required based on the make, year and model of your vehicle and offer to complete that recommended maintenance for you.”
Is synthetic oil better than conventional?
Yes, synthetic oil is generally better for your vehicle than conventional oil, and most vehicles now require it.
“This varies depending on the vehicle, and can also be up to the customer,” Paul says. “One benefit is that synthetic oil doesn’t need to be changed as often.”
